One of your employees is experiencing a significant change, such as a new position or a change to their role, requiring the development of new skills, or they are experiencing a crisis, stress or difficulty.

In each of these situations, your employee needs to adjust to effectively address their new circumstances. Your company may decide that the best way to support this employee is through individual coaching.

Individual coaching generally consists of 6 to 12 sessions over a period of 5 to 12 months. It can also be provided over a shorter duration, for example, when a decision needs to be made or when action needs to be taken.

All individual coaching services can also be provided to groups of up to 4 to 8 people. The coaching methods remain the same, with the additional benefit of group dialogue, including the opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences, in a safe and confidential environment.

  • THE STEPS

Step 1: After conducting a pre-meeting with the person to be coached and receiving their “go ahead” for the proposed coaching process, the number of sessions is set, generally at 6 to 12 sessions of 2 hours each, every 3 to 4 weeks.  The parameters of the coaching are formalized in a contract.

Step 2: The coaching begins after a meeting to set objectives, which brings together the staff who prescribed the coaching — managers at the n+1 and possibly n+2 levels and the director of human resources — as well as the person to be coached.

Step 3: The coaching takes place and is augmented by a mid-term review, which brings together participants to assess and reflect upon their development thus far.

Step 4: The conclusion of the coaching, followed by a debriefing meeting with all participants.

  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Knowing how to ask for and give delicate feedback, set limits, frame arguments and receive constructive criticism; this seems simple, and yet…

Mastering interpersonal skills gives employees a greater sense of freedom, comfort, and confidence, and increases their effectiveness .  Developing these skills also allows them to cultivate their own personal leadership style.

The purpose of this type of coaching is to concretely improve the way individuals interact with others, using methods derived from Nonviolent Communication, and to develop a greater understanding of themselves.

  • TAKING ON A NEW POSITION / CHANGE

One of your employees is experiencing a significant change by taking on a new position in your company, or they are new to your organization. Successful integration is key, not only for the particular employee but also for their team, peers, department, and the company as a whole.

  • DEVELOPMENT OF A MANAGEMENT PERSONA

One of your employees is experiencing difficulty with his or her work, whether personal, interpersonal or managerial, or they are being considered for a management position that requires the development of new skills.

This coaching service helps your employee:

    • Develop confidence

    • Act in ways that are consistent with their values

    • Strengthen their inter-personal communication and management skills

    • Find and develop their own work style by experimenting with different approaches

  • OTHER TOPICS

Additional topics, such as prioritizing, managing stress, developing assertiveness, and increasing confidence, can also be the subject of coaching sessions.

As with the other topics, a preliminary interview is conducted to determine needs and propose the most effective coaching plan.

  • “SPOT” COACHING: HIGH-STAKES PUBLIC SPEAKING AND DECISION MAKING

“Spot” coaching can help an employee:

    • Prepare for a difficult meeting, for example, one where the stakes will be high and the consequences long-lasting and visible

    • Present on a key subject

    • Give delicate feedback: evaluate, convince, propose…

    • Deal with a conflict

    • Make a decision that could significantly impact their work or career

This type of coaching can be conducted in one working session or over several sessions.
